Jazi Eko Istiyanto received a B.Sc in Physics (1986) from Gadjah Mada University, Yogyakarta, Indonesia. He then pursued higher degrees in the UK and received a Postgraduate Diploma in Computer Programming and Microprocessor Applications(1987), an M.Sc in Computer Science(1988), and a Ph.D in Electronic Systems Engineering (1995), all from the University of Essex. Now, he is the Head of the Physics Department (formerly, the program director of the B.Sc scheme in Electronics and Instrumentation). He is also a faculty member of the M.Sc program in Physics, the M.Sc. program in Computer Science, the M.Sc. program in Electrical Engineering, and the Master of Management program at Gadjah Mada university. His research interest covers information security, web services, and embedded systems. Dr. Istiyanto is a member of the Indonesian Physical Society and the Indonesian Engineer’s Association. He also currently serves as one of the Presidents of The Association of Computer and Informatics Universities (APTIKOM), and a committee member of the International Academy of CIO (Chief Information Officer), Indonesia Chapter.

Jazi Eko Istiyanto memperoleh gelar sarjana ilmu fisika (1986) dari Universitas Gadjah Mada. Kemudian ia mengikuti studi lanjut di Inggris dan memperoleh Postgraduate Computer Programming and Microprocessor Applications(1987), M.Sc in Computer Science(1988), dan Ph.D in Electronic Systems Engineering (1995), semuanya dari University of Essex. Kini ia adalah Ketua Jurusan Fisika (sebelumnya 2003-2007, sebagai Ketua Program Studi Elektronika dan Instrumentasi), dan mengajar pada Program S2/S3 Ilmu Komputer serta Program S2/S3 Ilmu Fisika, UGM. Selain itu ia juga mengajar pada Program Magister Managemen, dan Program S2 Teknik Elektro UGM. Minat risetnya meliputi information security, web services, dan embedded systems. Dr. Jazi adalah anggota Himpunan Fisika Indonesia dan Persatuan Insinyur Indonesia. Ia saat ini juga sebagai Ketua IV APTIKOM (Asosiasi Perguruan Tinggi Informatika dan Komputer) Pusat, serta anggota pengurus International Academy of CIO (Chief Information Officer), Indonesia Chapter.
